Sales Consultant Profile

Working as a Sales Consultant (SC) for Diversified Transportation Services can be very rewarding, both personally and financially. Of course this position is not right for everyone, so we do have a core set of experience that we like to see our SC’s have prior to joining our team.

  • Must be proactive and driven for success.
  • 2 years of Truckload, LTL, air freight, trade show, expedited or drayage sales experience.
  • Prior employment with a 3PL or broker is also acceptable with 1 year of experience.
  • Minimum of $500k top line revenue with a 12 month run rate.
  • Book of business should be portable.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Able to prospect, qualify, close and develop new business consistently.
  • Ability to sell at the C-Level is a strong plus.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to be a true “HUNTER” for new accounts is critical for continued success.
  • Self- motivated individual capable of working from a home office is crucial.

  • ResponsibilitiesContact current and prospective customers to generate new business using qualified leads and marketing tools. Build customer relationships while answering questions, resolving problems, and corresponding with customers via telephone and email. Compensation/ Work Hours:

Hourly wage plus commission/ 20 – 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday. Casual Attire work environment.

Working with DTS is a pretty simple yet detailed process. Typically we can get you set up and running in about 2 weeks. Our goal is to ensure that it is a mutually beneficial partnership therefore we do follow a detailed process and have multiple conversations with our prospective Sales Consultants.

Once received, we will review your resume to ensure your overall skill set is a good DTS match. We can review your resume the same day and then schedule a call with our VP of Sales.

Initial Interview and Conversation
Our top management will reach out to you after we review your resume. At that point you have the initial conversations with our management regarding your overall experiences and goals. If we both agree that you’re a good fit for DTS, we can then move forward to the next step.

Sign Off on ICA Agreement
We will provide you with a copy of our ICA agreement for review. Once you sign off on the agreement, we can get you set up in our TMS and be a part of the DTS organization.

After we have your ICA signed off on and dated, we can then move forward with setting up your training time frames. You will spend a good deal of time working remotely with our operations and management staff being acclimated to our processes and procedures.

The cost is zero so you don’t have any large capital expenditures unless you want to open up your own agency.

We can get you up and running in less than a week once you are approved to join our team.

What if I only have experience in LTL, can I still work with DTS?
While LTL is a large piece of business, we have Sales Consultants that focus strictly on Truckload, Volume, Expedited or Tradeshow logistics.

What does a typical Sales Consultant make with DTS?
Many make in excess of $100k a year, but it varies based on each individuals motivation and goals.  Since this is a commission based position, it truly is up to each individual as to how much money they make. Many of our SC’s make a very good living at doing exactly what they like, selling solution based logistics to their clients.

Do I have to live in a large city to thrive at DTS?
You do not have to live in a large city as you can work from anywhere in the U.S. Of course working in a large city makes it easier to grow your business with direct contacts face to face versus over the phone.

Is it possible to do most of my business over the phone if my clients are not near my geographic location?
Yes. As a matter of fact a large part of our industry does business by phone on a regular basis. Of course having face to face meetings is always beneficial as well so a good mix of both typically yields a positive result.
